This phrase accurately captures the frustrating scene outside a hypermarket in Ampang recently, a sight that is sadly far too common in Malaysia.
Right beneath two prominent blue signs reading “Khas untuk pemandu kurang upaya” (Reserved for disabled drivers), a row of standard motorcycles sat parked directly over the painted wheelchair icon.
Although the venue provided a prime, covered accessible spot right at the hypermarket’s doorstep, the blatant disregard of able-bodied motorcyclists rendered it entirely useless for those who truly need it.
Convenience over conscience
Shared to the aptly named You Park Like An As*hole (Malaysia) Facebook group, a photo of motorcyclists ‘invading’ the Persons with Disabilities (OKU) facility quickly caught the attention of netizens, sparking near-universal condemnation of the selfish riders.
In the caption, the original poster wrote:
“Why are you taking away the rights of the OKU? Location: Lotus’s Ampang.”
Netizens’ reaction and backlash
In the comments section, Malaysians sarcastically quipped that the motorcyclists must have forgotten to bring their brains along for the ride, which explained why they parked in the OKU spot.
One commenter remarked, “These are the same individuals who park in traffic, in front of stairs, and on pedestrian walkways. Anywhere, as long as it’s close and shaded. As a result, the elderly with walking sticks and those in wheelchairs are forced to travel on the road because the walkways are blocked. To them, only their own lives and motorcycles matter.”
“These people simply cannot be reprimanded,” another netizen quipped.
Sarcastically praying for their ‘dream’ to come true
Besides that, many commenters mockingly suggested that the motorcyclists were actually eligible to park there, given that their behaviour demonstrated a clear 'mental impairment'.
Furthermore, some even sarcastically prayed that the riders' apparent 'dream' of becoming disabled would soon come true.
The viral post serves as a reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding parking compliance in commercial premises. Ultimately, keeping accessible infrastructure clear relies on public cooperation alongside monitoring by local authorities and property operators.
