More than 1,000 foreigners were screened by Malaysia’s Immigration Department at Hentian Klang in an operation targeting illegal immigrants.
KLANG: More than 1,000 foreigners were screened by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) during “Op Mega” around the Hentian Klang area this afternoon, in an effort to combat the presence of illegal immigrants in the country.
The surprise inspection, which began at around 12:00 pm, targeted shoplots, various business premises, and hostels identified as major focal points for the settlements and economic activities of the foreign community in the Klang district.
A survey by Bernama found that enforcement teams scrutinised the travel document status of each detained individual to ensure there were no violations under the Immigration Act 1959/63, including offences such as overstaying and lacking valid documents.
It is understood that JIM placed full focus on the screening process to identify any involvement of external parties or employers harboring illegal immigrants – including nationals from Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Indonesia – at the inspected business premises.
The integrated operation also uncovered illegal activities at the involved premises when authorities found evidence of immoral activities and the sale of prohibited goods in several of the temporary accommodation units.
The large-scale proactive action was successfully carried out by 250 enforcement officers and personnel, resulting from strategic cooperation between JIM Putrajaya, JIM Selangor, the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Selangor.
All those detained were taken to the Selangor JIM Office for further investigation, and full details will be revealed tomorrow during a press conference by Immigration Department Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban in Putrajaya.
