Over 1,100 male victims of domestic violence recorded in the country this year

THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has recorded 1,183 cases of domestic violence involving male victims as of July this year, underscoring that men are also vulnerable to abuse in the home.

Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad, told the Dewan Rakyat today that the government is actively implementing strategic initiatives under the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) to strengthen family institutions and enhance national human capital in line with the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13).

“This initiative is the National Gentleman Programme, which includes the development and implementation of the Gentlemen Education Module, directly supporting LPPKN’s mandate to empower men as responsible husbands, fathers, and members of society,” she said in response to a question from Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi (PN-Kuala Kedah) seeking detailed statistics on male victims of domestic violence from 2022 to the present.

Reviewing trends over recent years, Noraini said there were 1,778 male victims recorded in 2022, dropping to 1,213 cases in 2023 before rising again to 1,865 cases in 2024.

Assessing the effectiveness of LPPKN’s family development programmes as of the second quarter of this year, she said results indicate a positive impact. Over 90 participants reported increased knowledge after taking part, nearly 90 per cent applied the lessons learned in practice, and almost 70 per cent experienced positive behavioural changes.

“Overall, these indicators show that modules such as Parenting@Work and other LPPKN family development programmes have a beneficial effect in enhancing family literacy. This includes fostering a culture of mutual respect between partners and helping reduce the risk of abuse, including against men,” she added. - October 30, 2025
