SHAH ALAM, July 2 - RM13.8 billion in allocations have been approved for 1,250 projects to redevelop dilapidated school buildings nationwide, said the Education Ministry (MOE).
As of June, 813 projects had been fully completed, while 173 were under construction and a further 264 were at the pre-construction stage.
“The MOE continues to take proactive measures to address the issue of dilapidated schools throughout the country.
“The construction period for these projects ranges from six to 36 months, depending on the scope of each project and the site preparation requirements,” it said in a statement today.
The MOE added that the number of dilapidated schools previously reported is dynamic and changes over time based on current assessments.
“The ministry, through the state Education Departments, continuously monitors the needs and feasibility of constructing replacement buildings for dilapidated schools.
“We remain committed to ensuring access to quality education and providing a conducive learning environment in schools across the country for the benefit of pupils, teachers, and the wider community,” it said.
Yesterday, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that over 1,000 schools nationwide have been identified as having structurally unsafe buildings, and were subsequently classified as dilapidated.
In a written Parliamentary reply to Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Anak Mongin's query in the Dewan Rakyat, she said the MOE remains committed to providing safe and conducive educational infrastructure for pupils and school communities nationwide.
