Over 1,200 students unleash their creativity at Faber-Castell’s Score A Creative Learning Student Olympics

Faber-Castell is a familiar brand that advocates and nurtures learning and creativity. Recently, the brand concluded the Score A Creative Learning Student Olympics – a nationwide competition where nominated students showcase the learning techniques from participating teachers of the Creative Learning by Score A, Teacher’s Edition programme.

The competition started in September 2022 and had over 1,200 participants across 185 schools in Malaysia. Students had to compete in four key missions in order to be shortlisted. It was not only based on online assessment scores, but also application of techniques via creative notes taking. The finalists were then judged by a panel of five education and sustainability experts.

Vicky Tiong Ing Ong from SMK Methodist Sibu emerged as the Top Student in the secondary category.

To me, this competition is like an exam, and I revised intensely ─ even while I was on the flight, all the way from Sarawak. I enjoy the process of taking notes and videos. Arts is one of my passions, and I’m happy that I can turn learning into something more fun and interesting. I’ve enjoyed this journey, and I will encourage my schoolmates to use the techniques we’ve learnt during the workshops.” she said.

Mr Andrew Woon, Managing Director of Faber-Castell Malaysia mentioned that this programme is part of Faber-Castell’s commitment to help students learn how to study better. They want to empower teachers and students through the Creative Learning by Score A programme. By doing so, everyone engages in effective and interactive sessions using creative learning techniques and activities.

The programme aims to enhance the teacher’s teaching techniques and the student’s learning process. It offers a two-pronged approach. In June, the Teacher’s Edition equipped the participating teachers with practical applications of creative learning techniques, i.e. emoji, time blocking and memory palace. Then, there were ten study skills workshops conducted by a coach. In addition to the workshops, five academic experts with different strengths and expertise shared about the application of techniques.

These techniques help students to nurture creativity and leverage their studies in the classroom and at home. Hence, students were encouraged to apply and demonstrate these techniques during the nationwide competition.
