KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 13,550 students from Sabah have benefited from the Sabah State Government Scholarship (BKNS) between 2021 and 2024, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said that in line with the government’s commitment to providing educational assistance to Sabah’s youth, funding for BKNS has been progressively increased, reaching an all-time high of RM128 million this year—a 150 per cent rise compared to 2020.

“Since assuming office in October 2020, the allocation for BKNS has been consistently raised from RM50 million in 2020 to RM55 million in 2021, followed by RM101 million in 2023 and RM113 million in 2024,” he said at a breaking-of-fast event with higher learning institute students at the KLCC Convention Centre on Thursday.

His speech was delivered by the State Science, Technology and Innovation MInister Datuk Mohd Arifin Datuk Mohd Arif, who also serves as the State Exco for Education and Religious Affairs.

Hajiji added that the Sabah State Education Fund (TPNS), launched in 2022, has supported 7,483 students from B40 households who were not sponsored by any other entity, with a total allocation of RM8.6 million.
