A TOTAL of 2,171 flood victims from 759 families remain housed at temporary relief centres (PPS) in the districts of Manjung and Larut, Matang and Selama as of 8 am today, according to the Perak State Disaster Management Committee.
In a statement, the committee said that three relief centres were operating in Manjung, while another 19 were open in Larut, Matang and Selama.
Among the worst-hit areas in Larut, Matang and Selama are Kampung Simpang Halt, Kampung Sungai Baru, Kampung Salak Baru, Kampung Sungai Lubok, Kampung Masjid, Kampung Batu 8, Kampung Batu 9 and Kampung Ulu Sepetang.
Other affected locations include Kampung Jelapang Jaya, Taman Simpang Makmur, Kampung Sungai Batu Teguh, Taman Simpang, Kampung Baru Simpang, Kampung Batu 27 Hampar, Kampung Jawa and Kampung Kelubong.
Several housing estates were also inundated, including Taman Kota Wira, Taman Kamunting Tiara, Taman Lara Aman and Taman Lara Damai, as well as nearby villages such as Kampung Changkat Larah, Kampung Paya and Kampung Tengah.
In Manjung, the floods have affected Kampung Nelayan, Kampung Sungai Batu, Taman Pantai Wang, Kampung Lorong Masjid, Pantai Tin and Kampung Padang Serai. Other affected areas include Kampung Tersusun, Taman Anggerik and Kampung Pulau Kabung.
Meanwhile, the Taiping Rest and Service Area (R&R) along the North–South Expressway has been temporarily closed due to heavy rain causing significant water pooling in the area.
PLUS Malaysia Berhad, in a post on its official X account, said the closure was necessary to ensure the safety of all highway users.
As of 7.54 am, the surau at the northbound lay-by in Taiping remained closed, while the emergency and left lanes between KM214.3 and KM215.0 (southbound) were also shut.
Earlier at 7.14 am, PLUS had warned motorists of flooding at the southbound Taiping lay-by, affecting the stretch between Taiping (northbound) and Changkat Jering.
“R&R Taiping (both directions) will remain closed until further notice due to flooding following continuous heavy rain in the area,” PLUS said, advising drivers to plan their journeys accordingly and use nearby facilities at R&R Bukit Gantang or Bukit Merah.
In a separate incident in Bandar Baharu, Kedah, six flood victims from two families were rescued by firefighters last night after their homes in Kampung Bendang Sera Terap were inundated.
Serdang Fire and Rescue Station chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Mohd Shahir Redza Ruslal, said his team received a distress call at 8.35 pm and promptly deployed seven personnel led by Senior Fire Officer II Razman Ahmad Kholil.
“Upon arrival, we found flash floods with water levels reaching about 0.3 metres. The victims comprised two elderly persons, two adult women and two teenage boys. They were evacuated to Masjid Padang Terap for temporary shelter,” he said.
The operation, which involved a rescue boat, a utility vehicle and a fire engine, concluded at 11.59pm. - October 24, 2025
