The West Coast Expressway anticipates a major traffic surge during the Aidilfitri holidays, with daily vehicle numbers projected to exceed 200,000.

SHAH ALAM: West Coast Expressway Holdings Berhad (WCEHB) forecasts a daily traffic volume exceeding 200,000 vehicles on the West Coast Expressway (WCE) from March 20 to 29.

This significant surge is attributed to the long Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays and reflects a sharp increase in travel demand based on recent festive patterns.

WCE Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Engagement General Manager Syed Mohammed Idid noted that the highway previously recorded between 160,000 and 170,000 vehicles per day during similar periods.

He stated that traffic flow along existing stretches has shown a marked increase, even though several sections in Selangor—Sections 3, 4, and 7—remain closed and are expected to be completed this year.

“WCE remains committed to ensuring safe and efficient journeys for all road users,” he said in a statement.

He advised highway users to plan their trips early to avoid congestion, particularly during peak hours expected from afternoon until night.

Motorists were recommended to download the WCE application for real-time traffic information and to depart early in the morning.

Drivers were also urged to ensure their vehicles are in good and safe condition before beginning their journeys.

Users are reminded to always comply with speed limits, wear seat belts, and refrain from misusing the emergency lane except in genuine emergencies.

Furthermore, drivers are advised to get adequate rest before travelling and to stop at rest and service areas such as Sungai Nyior in Perak and Kapar in Selangor if feeling tired.

For any emergency assistance, users can contact the WCE toll-free line at 1700-81-6600, which operates 24 hours a day.
