Over 240,000 B40 Melakans participate in health screening scheme

MELAKA – A total of 29,197 residents or 15.7% of the 185,407 people among the B40 group in Melaka have participated in the Skim Peduli Kesihatan (Peka) health screening scheme as of November 30.

State Health and Anti-Drugs Committee chairman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said more programmes will be implemented in the future in an effort to attract the remaining 156,210 individuals in the group who have not yet been screened under the scheme.

“We will request and cooperate with various agencies, especially involving the State Assembly Development and Coordination Committee Offices (Japerun) who want to implement the programme to inform us.

“It is to enable the Peka screening teams to be with them to do the (health) screenings for free,” he said at the Melaka assembly sitting here today.

He said this in reply to a question posed by Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar (Rim-BN) regarding the number and measures being taken to attract more people to participate in the Peka screening in the state.

Dr Akmal said in addition to Japerun, screening is also carried out at private and government health clinics as well as in collaboration with mobile cancer clinics.

“Through these clinics, people can carry out early detection of cancer or ‘tumour markers’ easily, including mammograms because we understand that many people have time constraints,” he said. – Bernama, December 14, 2022
