Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor asserted that the coalition is on track to secure a decisive victory in the 17th Sabah state election, expressing confidence that GRS will capture well beyond the 37 seats required for a simple majority. Speaking after the Our Home, We Care for GRS campaign event in Beaufort, he said the coalition is contesting 55 seats and is optimistic about winning more than 40 of them.

His confidence extends not only to the two hotly watched constituencies of Lumadan and Klias—where GRS is seen as having the upper hand—but also across the entire slate of seats the coalition is contesting. He emphasised that the coalition is in a strong position to defend the government and retain its mandate.

Hajiji, who also heads Sabah’s Parti Gagasan Rakyat, said the coalition had taken measures to ease voting for Sabahans living outside the state. He shared that allocations have been set aside in each constituency to assist outstation voters returning home for polling day on November 29. These include incentives for travel, including support for flight costs.

During his speech earlier, Hajiji highlighted that the GRS government has consistently provided various forms of assistance to students, including transportation support during festive seasons. He stated that beginning this year, students pursuing higher education within Sabah—regardless of whether they study at public or private institutions—will be provided RM300 each to facilitate their trips home during major celebrations such as Hari Raya, Ramadan, and Christmas.

He revealed that this initiative stemmed from a message he received from a student struggling to afford the journey back to his hometown despite the relatively modest cost. Realising that many shared the same challenges, the state government approved blanket assistance for all eligible students from districts across Sabah, including Sandakan, Tawau, Keningau, Sindumin, and others studying in Kota Kinabalu.

Hajiji said the strong turnout at the evening rally reflected encouraging grassroots support for GRS candidates. He expressed confidence that both Lumadan and Klias candidates—Datuk Ruslan Muharam and Datuk Isnin Aliasnih—would secure victories.

The event was also attended by GRS Women’s Chief Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun and Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah, underscoring a united GRS machinery as the coalition intensifies its campaign ahead of polling day.
