Over 80,000 fans crowd Bukit Jalil for TFC-JDT match

KUALA LUMPUR – Excitement fills the air as more than 80,000 football fans are crammed into the Bukit Jalil National Stadium here to watch the FA Cup final between Terengganu FC (TFC) and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

Fans – from toddlers to adults – were donning scarves and jerseys of their favourite teams and some even had their faces painted with team colours. Some even got here as early as 10am today.

Many came in convoys from Terengganu and Johor as early as Wednesday while some took this opportunity to watch the excitement with family and friends.

TFC supporter Mohd Azam Sulong told The Vibes that he left his home state with 14 of his friends on Wednesday.

“We left Terengganu on Wednesday, hoping to beat the traffic due to the school holiday. We hope that TFC will get to bring home the cup again this year, maybe they could score 2-1.

“If they win, we are planning to stay another night in Kuala Lumpur, if not we will just head home right after the match,” said the business owner.

Another TFC supporter Mariati Wahab expressed her enthusiasm as she was able to watch the match with her football-fanatic family.

“It is like a family gathering for us. All of my children stayed quite far from me, but I am glad we took this chance to be with each other rooting for our home team.”

She also hoped that all fans would be on their best behaviour and accept the results openly, no matter which team wins tonight.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Allif Qayyum, who came with his family members to support JDT, said he booked a hotel to stay in Kuala Lumpur last night.

“I have my parents, wife and my children here with me today. I managed to get 15 tickets for my family to support my wife’s home team.”

JDT Supporters Club deputy president Mohd Fadzli Sapie had said 100 buses were chartered to ferry some 4,000 supporters from all over Johor to Kuala Lumpur for the clash tonight.
