Kota Kinabalu: Over 850 students and teachers attended Junior Chamber International (JCI) Tanjung Aru drug awareness talk titled “Your Life, Your Choice: Say NO to Drugs” at SM La Salle, Tanjung Aru recently.
The event was supported by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department of the state contingent police headquarters, led by Assistant Supt of Police (ASP) Salinie binti Ahmad.
The talk is part of the Merdeka for Mereka 2.0 project, a community initiative dedicated to giving back to society and addressing pressing issues in Sabah.
Chairperson of Merdeka for Mereka 2.0 Yuki Yong and 2024 President of JCI Tanjung Aru Amanda Yong organised the event in response to the alarming rise in drug abuse cases among teenagers in Kota Kinabalu.

Their informative sessions aimed to educate and empower the audience to make informed choices about drug use.
The programme began with ASP Salinie introducing her department, followed by an engaging demonstration featuring Duyun, a police dog from the K9 unit.
Duyun showcased his skills in identifying hidden drugs, captivating the audience, offering students and teachers an opportunity to interact with the trained canine.
