Over 9,000kg solid waste collected at Beaufort event

BEAUFORT: The District Council collected 9,930.85 kilogrammes of solid waste during last Saturday’s district-level Malaysia Clean Up Day programme.

The programme was held simultaneously across the country in conjunction with the International Coastal Clean Up Day (ICC) and World Clean Up Day (WCD) celebrations.

District Council Executive Officer Mohd Ainol Mohd Dun said activities included cleaning the Taman Sri Panglima Open Hall and Beaufort General Market and collecting used cooking oil and electronic waste.

“In addition, a distribution of second-hand clothing was also conducted in Weston Town,” he said.

The 2024 Malaysia Clean Up Day aimed to encourage the public to engage in activities that clean up their surroundings and cultivate the habit of cleaning their respective environments and housing areas.

“This is important in preventing the spread of diseases, stopping the breeding of animals that can cause disturbances, and fostering harmony within the neighbourhood,” Ainol said.
