SANDAKAN: The Sabah Region 4 Marine Police thwarted two illegal smuggling operations in separate raids across Sandakan, seizing contraband worth over RM350,000.
In the first operation on August 19, the Marine Police and Marine Strike Unit raided a house in Taman Indah Jaya, Batu 4, at around 8.30pm, following a tip-off from the public.
Officers uncovered 90,800 sticks of smuggled cigarettes hidden in plastic containers, leading to the arrest of a 29-year-old local man.
Sabah Region 4 Marine Police Commander, ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim, said the total value of the seizure was RM129,618, with investigations ongoing under the Customs Act 1967.
In a separate case, the Sabah Region 4 Intelligence Unit raided an illegal diesel storage warehouse located along Jalan Batu 27.
Two local men, aged 26 and 66, were caught in the act of transferring diesel from storage drums into truck tanks, believed to be part of a black-market supply chain involving syndicates.
This second seizure was valued at RM228,935, and is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.
The marine police reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on smuggling and urged the public to continue providing information to protect national welfare and security.
