About 400 people got trapped at a campsite in Selangor today after heavy overnight rain caused flooding in the area.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said they received the report at 5:47 AM this morning.
Authorities confirmed that no one was hurt
According to China Press, the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) quickly dispatched a team to the scene to help.
The flood hit early this morning at a campsite in Jelutong, Sungai Buloh, Selangor.
Luckily, firefighters arrived in time and moved about 400 people to higher ground. No casualties were reported.
“Around 400 people were trapped by the flood. Firefighters guided them to higher ground for safety, and once the water level went down a bit, they were allowed to return to the camp,” officials said.
He added that the rain in the area has gradually let up.
Malaysia hasn’t entered the monsoon transition phase just yet
Earlier, Berita Harian reported that heavy rain had caused flooding in several states, though wind activity has started to ease.
MetMalaysia’s Director-General, Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, said the country is now at the tail end of the season.
He explained that based on current wind patterns, Malaysia hasn’t yet entered the monsoon transition phase, and reminded the public that even short bursts of heavy rain can trigger flash floods.
