KUALA LUMPUR — Public Accounts Committee chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin today said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki should step down if investigations show he breached civil service shareholding limits or public service guidelines.
The Masjid Tanah MP said such a move would be necessary to protect the MACC’s credibility, stressing that the anti-graft body must be beyond suspicion.
“As the head of the country’s foremost institution in combating corruption and abuse of power, any questions over compliance with public service regulations, shareholding limits or potential conflicts of interest cannot be taken lightly,” she said in a Facebook post.
The Bersatu lawmaker added that public trust underpins institutional strength and that the MACC leadership must meet the highest standards, free not only from wrongdoing but from any perception that could erode confidence.
Her remarks follow a Bloomberg report alleging that Azam held 17.7 million shares in Velocity Capital Partner Bhd, a Bursa Malaysia-listed financial services firm, based on the company’s annual filing with the Companies Commission of Malaysia on February 3 last year.
The MACC has rejected the claims, describing the report as misleading and unfounded.
Azam has maintained that his RM800,000 shareholding in a financial services company was acquired transparently, in line with procedures, and fully declared. — February 11, 2026
