KUALA LUMPUR – The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will proceed with its hearings into the management of public airports, despite Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) becoming fully owned by the Gateway Development Alliance (GDA) consortium led by Khazanah Nasional on February 22.
PAC chair Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the committee began proceedings on the matter on February 17, with eight hearings held to date.
She said the PAC had also recalled several witnesses from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Khazanah Nasional on June 3 and 4 to clarify issues raised in previous sessions.
"Among the witnesses were former EPF chair Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir, EPF chief investment officer Rohaya Yusof, Khazanah Nasional Bhd board member Goh Ching Yin, and executive director Wong Shu Hsien.
"Although this matter was not reported in the Auditor-General’s Report, PAC reminded all witnesses to cooperate and appear before the committee to provide further clarification and testimony," she said in a statement today.
In February, Transport Minister Anthony Loke questioned PAC’s decision to summon him over allegations of a RM500 million loss in the MAHB share transaction.
Loke stressed that PAC should engage the appropriate channels when seeking explanations from his ministry, including matters involving the sale of MAHB shares.
He explained that MAHB is a publicly listed company and does not fall under the purview of the Ministry of Transport. Hence, equity matters involving institutional investors such as Khazanah Nasional and EPF are handled by the respective fund managers.
“In this case, it concerns EPF. So if clarification is needed, they should ask EPF—not my ministry,” he said.
Mas Ermieyati added that the PAC is invoking its powers under Standing Order 77(1)(d) of the Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders for this inquiry.
She said the committee is also acting under Standing Order 83(2), Treasury Instruction 301 (Amendment) 2023, and Section 5(3)(d) of General Circular No. 1 of 2024 concerning the organisation of ministries and the Prime Minister’s Department. – June 5, 2025
