Padilla backs Metro Manila wage hike

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Robin Padilla on Monday urged his fellow senators to support Metro Manila workers affected by the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued against the proposed P85 minimum wage hike.

In his speech during Monday's plenary session, Padilla said he joined Kamanggagawa Party-list Rep. Eli San Fernando and Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña at the Pasig Regional Trial Court to oppose the TRO.

He cited Article 126 of the Labor Code, which states that no court or tribunal may issue a TRO or injunction against proceedings before the National Wages and Productivity Commission or Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards.

Padilla urged lawmakers to set aside political differences in defense of workers.

“We belong to different parties. We don't see eye to eye when it comes to politics. But when it involves the welfare of our workers, we marched together earlier," he said.
