KUANTAN: The flood situation in Pahang has improved significantly, with only 86 evacuees from 29 families remaining at relief centres this afternoon.

This is a sharp drop from the 194 victims from 58 families reported earlier in the morning.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s InfoBencana portal, 21 evacuees from six families are sheltering at the Kampung Semangat community hall in Kuantan.

In Maran, 35 people from six families are accommodated at the Kampung Baru Pertanian community hall.

A further 30 evacuees from 17 families in Pekan are at three centres: Sekolah Menengah Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulau Manis and the Air Hitam community hall.

The Infobanjir portal reported the water level of Sungai Pahang at Paloh Hinai, Pekan, remained above the danger level as of 3 pm.

Continuous heavy rainfall over the past week had caused flooding in several districts, with evacuees previously exceeding 13,000.
