Pahang Health Dept has issued 15,537 compounds to food outlets last year

KUANTAN – The Pahang Health Department issued 15,537 compounds totalling RM4.7 million for various offences throughout last year, said state Health director Datuk Dr Nor Azimi Yunus.

She said the department had issued the second-highest number of notices under the Food Act 1983 namely the Food Regulations (PPM) 1985, Food Hygiene Regulations (PKM) 2009 and Control of Tobacco Product Regulations (PPKHT) 2004, adding that a total of 3,718 were issued under the PPM and PKM, while 169 of 8,066 food outlets inspected were ordered to close due to unhygienic practices.

She said 8,857 notices were issued for offences under PPKHT 2004 and 2,962 premises were also fined for having Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.

“Enforcement is the last resort because the community does not comply with the rules that have been set,” she said at a press conference after leading the integrated public health mega operations here today.

Dr Nor Azimi informed that 19 individuals were issued compounds during the operations for smoking in non-smoking areas and one out of three premises checked were ordered to shut down for 14 days after the enforcement team found rat droppings and carcasses.

She said the integrated enforcement effort would be held until tomorrow, involving 135 enforcement officers.

Meanwhile, she said the department’s enforcement personnel had started using body cameras when carrying out operations, following the lead of their colleagues in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. – Bernama, January 20, 2023
