In a heartbreaking and tragic incident, a man has been charged with the murder of his wife. The accused, Izzat Saat, 38, appeared in the Magistrate's Court where the charge was read out to him.
Although he nodded in acknowledgment, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. According to the charge, Izzat is accused of causing the death of Nurul Qurraisyia Zulkafli, 33, at their residence on Jalan Congkak 32/48, Section 32.
The alleged incident occurred between 10.30 pm on December 14 and 10.30 am on December 6. The charge brought against him is under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries severe penalties upon conviction, including a maximum penalty of death or imprisonment for up to 40 years, as well as whipping for not less than 12 times.
During the court proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Saidah Fasihah Che Yussoff represented the prosecution, while Izzat was represented by lawyer Rezal Mazli Abdul Muin. The magistrate, Farah Rosnan, scheduled the mention for February 19, to allow for the submission of the post-mortem and forensic reports.
