LABUAN: Former Sabah Chief Minister Tan Seri Pairin Kitigan should not give the impression that he is running away from testifying in Sabah’s biggest RM130 million scandal that had a direct bearing on the State’s water crisis. “Being a lawyer and Huguan Siou (paramount leader) of the community, he should abide by the law and make himself available to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) to help close the case now entering its record ninth year,” said KDMR activist George Elias.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat said he had been trying to contact Pairin to testify in but without success.
Defence Counsel for main accused, former Director Awang Tahir also said he was trying to reach Pairin but was unable to, besides two others.
George said those called to testify should not play hide and seek.
He said he was sure that was not the case with Pairin and that it was in the interest of Pairin to cooperate and clear the air on his role, if any, in the scandal while he was State Infrastructure Development Minister as his name was mentioned in the proceedings.
He praised former Deputy CM Datuk Seri Raymond Tan who was in court to testify.
