PAKATAN Harapan (PH) is gearing up for internal strategic discussions to align its component parties following Barisan Nasional's (BN) willingness to negotiate seat distribution for the upcoming Melaka state election.
PH Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil highlighted that while BN’s receptive stance offers a constructive avenue for cross-coalition stability, PH must carefully evaluate its own position and maintain internal consensus throughout the seat allocation process.
He noted that dialogue at the grassroots level has already commenced, setting the foundation for broader coalition discussions.
"The chairman of Keadilan Melaka, Yang Berhormat Adam Adli, also informed that he had been in direct contact with Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof (regarding the distribution of Melaka State Legislative Assembly seats)."
Fahmi emphasised that PH's internal planning and external negotiations will be guided by the practical distribution of power in the state, where Barisan currently holds 21 seats to PH's five.
"I think this openness is a good opportunity for us to examine because we know that in Melaka, Barisan has 21 seats, while Pakatan has five seats. So that is a realistic matter,” he told media representatives on Sunday after launching a community health initiative in Lembah Pantai.
Fahmi, who also holds the portfolio of Communications Minister, explained that coordinating seat allocations will require active management and consensus-building at both state and national leadership levels within the coalition framework.
The developments follow assurances from BN’s chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who stated on Saturday that his coalition remains open to seat negotiations or swaps, provided the process is grounded in sincerity, preserves party seat tallies, and adheres to the fundamental principle of respecting incumbents. - August 9, 2026
