Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said that his country was ready to host the next round of Iran-US peace talks “very soon” after the two sides negotiated the major contours of a proposed deal.
“Pakistan will continue its peace efforts with utmost sincerity and we hope to host the next round of talks very soon,” Sharif said in an early morning post on X. He also congratulated US President Donald Trump “on his extraordinary efforts to pursue peace.”
The whole matter was still subject to finalization by the United States, Iran and other countries, Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.
"Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly," Trump added.
"In addition to many other elements of the Agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened," the US president asserted.
Trump also held telephone call with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, the UAE, Jordan and Pakistan and a separate telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Army Chief General Asim Munir represented Pakistan as Sharif is on an official visit to China. Munir held multiple meetings with Iranian leadership in Tehran on Friday and Saturday.
Pakistan has been mediating between the two sides and hosted Iranian and US delegations, including US Vice President JD Vance, for a first round of direct talks in April, aimed at ending the war launched by the US and Israel on February 28.
