Pakistan announced on Saturday that the technical-level talks between Iran and the United States to hammer out the complex operational details of their framework agreement will begin on Sunday.

“As a follow-up to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, technical-level talks will be held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland," on Sunday, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said on Saturday.

US and Iranian representatives, as well as mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, will take part in the talks, the statement said.

Pakistan will continue to facilitate the process in its role as mediator, with a view to advancing the understandings reached under the Islamabad agreement, it added.

A first round of talks in Switzerland was originally scheduled for Friday, but was cancelled due to renewed mutual attacks between the Israeli army and the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.

The Pakistani interior minister has travelled to Iran while Pakistan's foreign minister left for Cairo for talks on Middle East security.

Pakistan has officially been acting as a mediator between the warring parties Iran and the US since April.

Washington and Tehran signed a framework agreement earlier in the week that calls for an end to hostilities in the region and the restoration of commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Further negotiations on contentious issues, such as the Iranian nuclear programme, are to follow within 60 days.

But the agreement's future was cast into fresh doubt on Saturday when Iran announced it was again closing the Strait of Hormuz, citing alleged Israeli violations of its ceasefire with Hezbollah.

Iran announced on Saturday that it is closing the Strait of Hormuz because it says Israel has violated its ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran.
