
Kota Kinabalu: A Pakistani was detained on suspicion of transporting fags worth over RM90,000 in Kampung Bingkul, Beaufort, last Thursday.
The 38-year-old suspect was driving a Toyota Vios when he was apprehended at about 6.30pm by a team of police officers from the Marine Police Force Operations Headquarters (PPM) in Labuan.
Commander of the Marine Police Force (PPM) for Region Four Sabah, Assistant Commissioner Nazri Ibrahim, said the arrest and seizure were the result of intelligence gathered by the Marine Intelligence Unit (URM) during operations under Op Taring Landai Khas Kontraban.

“As soon as the driver exited the vehicle, the operation team carried out inspection on the vehicle,” he said in a statement, Friday.
Nazri said the inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of various brands of cigarettes suspected to be untaxed, hidden inside the vehicle.
The suspect was arrested, and the cigarettes along with the vehicle were seized, which amounted to RM93,420.
“All the seized items were brought to the Beaufort Police Station. The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967,” he said.
