MANILA, Philippines — An Airbus A320 operated by Philippine Airlines (PAL) sustained tail fin damage on Tuesday night after being struck by a Saudia Airlines aircraft during ground maneuvering at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
PAL management confirmed on Wednesday that its A320, with registry number RP-C8612, was hit by the Boeing 787 of Saudia Airlines flight SV871.
Flight SV871 was scheduled to fly to Jeddah when it struck the tail of the parked A320 during taxiing, damaging PAL plane's vertical stabilizer.
PAL said that no passengers or crew members were on board the parked plane at the time of the incident, and no injuries have been reported.
Reports indicated that both aircraft were subsequently grounded due to the structural damage, forcing the cancelation of the Saudia flight to Jeddah.
The flag carrier is coordinating closely with the relevant airport and aviation authorities, who are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
