MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang issued Proclamation 1320 declaring June 24 a special non-working day in Manila in celebration of its 455th Founding Anniversary.
The issuance of the circular was to give residents the opportunity to participate in the city’s anniversary festivities.
“WHEREAS, it is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” it stated.
Work in government offices and private establishments within the City of Manila would be suspended, subject to existing rules and regulations governing special non-working holidays.
Manila, the country’s capital city, traces its founding to June 24, 1571, when Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi formally established the city under Spanish rule.
The annual celebration commemorates the city’s rich history and cultural heritage, with local government units traditionally organizing various civic, cultural, and community activities.
