MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Thursday refuted Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano's allegations that some members of the Cabinet were conspiring with the group led by Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian to control the Senate.
Cayetano claimed that these Cabinet members had allegedly approached Sen. Jinggoy Estrada to join the minority bloc in exchange for not pursuing a case linked to the flood control scandal.
"What power do Cabinet members have to promise a person allegedly involved in an anomaly that they will no longer have a case? They have no right. They have no power," Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said a media interview.
"The power is in the hands of the Office of the Ombudsman or the Department of Justice. So it is up to the Office of the Ombudsman to recommend whether to dismiss the case or file a case. The Cabinet has nothing to do with that," she added.
