MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Tuesday said it was hoping for a fair impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte amid public concerns over recent changes in the Senate leadership.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the impeachment case against was now in the hands of the Senate, reiterating that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. would not interfere in the proceedings.
"Hopefully, if this goes to the Senate, our senators will be fair judges, because this is for the people," Castro said during a press conference.
"So, the House of Representatives has spoken and it is their job and it is not part of the mandate of the President," she added.
