A road in Palam village was named after late social leader Chaudhary Ramkaran Solanki on Saturday, in honour of his long-standing contributions to Delhi’s rural communities, and village development.
A ceremony held in this regard was attended by Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh and members of the rural community, many of whom remembered Solanki as a leader who remained closely connected to the concerns of farmers and villagers throughout his life.
Speaking at the event, the minister said, “Solanki was not defined by any position, he was a thought, a commitment that stood firmly with villages, farmers and rural society. His simplicity in nature and strength in purpose made him deeply respected across Delhi’s rural belt.
“He devoted his entire life to raising the voice of dehat. Even today, he is remembered with warmth, respect, and a sense of belonging by the people.
“The decision by the Chief Minister to name a road after him is not merely a formal gesture, it is a tribute to a life dedicated to public service and rural upliftment. It is now our responsibility to carry forward his vision. Both the Central and the Delhi Government are working with full commitment for the development of rural areas, and in the coming time, many significant initiatives will further strengthen this resolve.”
Solanki, also known as Chaudhary Ram Karan Solanki, served as the Pradhan of the influential Palam 360 Khap for 16 years. The khap represents nearly 360 villages across Delhi and Haryana and has historically played an important role in raising social and community issues concerning rural areas.
Widely regarded as a strong voice for Delhi’s villages, Solanki actively worked on matters related to land rights, education and infrastructure development. After his passing in May 2021, he continues to be remembered with respect across the rural belt of the national capital.
The road naming ceremony turned into an emotional moment for many villagers, who described the honour as a fitting tribute to a leader who dedicated his life to public service and the welfare of rural society.
