KUNAK: Several Palauh ethnic families and local residents have resorted to makeshift shelters on nearby coastal land after Saturday’s demolition operation at the Kg Jeti water settlement left them homeless.

“We don’t know where to move to,” said Hamzah Amirudin, a 63-year-old local resident and Parti Keadilan Rakyat member.

Hamzah, who has lived in Kg Jeti with his Palauh wife for 15 years, expressed disappointment over the loss of his belongings – several plywood sheets, zinc and 5kg of rice.

“I was not here during the operation. By the time I arrived, I saw the items kept in a pile on the coastal area were already damaged and cannot be used anymore,” he said.
