Palm oil entrepreneur loses nearly RM250,000 to fake investment scheme

A 56-YEAR-OLD palm oil entrepreneur lost nearly RM250,000 after being duped by a syndicate behind a non-existent investment scheme promoted on social media.

Tangkak district police chief Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib said the woman was lured into the scheme after coming across an investment advertisement on TikTok on May 6.

He said the syndicate allegedly enticed her with promises of exceptionally high returns if she joined the investment.

"The victim became interested and joined a scheme known as 'Quantsea X' on TikTok, making 18 separate transactions into three accounts provided by the suspects totalling RM245,403.

"The transactions were made from July 1 until Aug 22. The victim realised she had been scammed after failing to receive the promised returns," he said in a statement.

Roslan said the victim subsequently lodged a police report at the Tangkak District Police Headquarters for further action.

"The investigation is being conducted under Section 420 of the Penal Code. Members of the public are advised not to be deceived by offers of lucrative returns within a short period," he said. - August 31, 2026
