Pamela Ling's abduction: Cops probing possibility of husband's involvement

Police are investigating the possibility that Datin Seri Pamela Ling's husband is a suspect in her kidnapping, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

“At this stage, the likelihood is leaning in that direction (the husband) and possibly a few other individuals.

“The investigation is not yet complete, and we believe there are others we will also identify as suspects,” he told reporters after the 2024 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Excellent Service Award ceremony at Bukit Aman today.

Following the victim's disappearance, he said he ordered the formation of a special task force involving elements from the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department and the Kuala Lumpur police.

The case, he added, is being investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.

Commenting on the statement given by an e-hailing driver, who claimed the individual believed to have abducted Ling at the scene was wearing a police uniform and vest, Razarudin said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspect was impersonating a police officer or was a rogue officer.

“That is something we do not tolerate. If investigations show that any officers are involved in robbery or kidnapping cases, we will charge them in court and it has happened before in the force’s history,” he said.

Razarudin also said the probe is currently looking into the CCTV footage acquired and witness statements recorded, adding that to date, at least 16 individuals have had their statements recorded.

This includes a statement that was initially recorded from the victim's husband.

"Our investigators will also record statements from the victim's children," he said, adding that the motive behind the kidnapping has yet to be established.

Asked about the CCTV footage, Razarudin said he would be chairing a meeting with the special task force later tonight to receive the latest updates on the case.
