The family of Datin Seri Pamela Ling has voiced serious concerns over the police’s claim that she may still be alive, expressing frustration over the lack of clarity and transparency in the investigation surrounding her sudden disappearance a month ago.
Pamela Ling, who was expected to appear as a witness at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters on April 9, vanished after her e-hailing ride was reportedly intercepted by unknown individuals in multiple vehicles. Despite a recent police press conference suggesting she might be alive and implying the abduction may have been staged, her family is questioning both the credibility and motivation behind such claims.
Speaking on behalf of the family, lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo stated that while the idea of Ling being alive offers some comfort to her children, the police have not explained how they arrived at such a conclusion. She further challenged the logic behind the suggestion that Ling orchestrated her own disappearance, implying that such a theory, if not strongly supported by evidence, could serve as a distraction from investigative shortcomings.
Sangeet highlighted that Ling may have complied with her interceptors under the assumption they were law enforcement officers, a reaction she argued was reasonable under the circumstances. She pointed out that even the Grab driver accompanying Ling had reportedly handed over his documents without resistance, supporting the notion that the incident appeared official.
The family also criticized the police briefing as lacking new developments, describing it as a repetition of previously shared details, such as the use of cloned vehicles during the interception. Questions were raised about why no witnesses or security personnel had come forward, especially in such a high-traffic area.
Moreover, Sangeet scrutinized the MACC’s handling of Ling’s case. She questioned whether the commission had followed protocol by requesting a warrant of arrest when Ling failed to attend the scheduled appointment. She also noted that Ling had already visited the MACC multiple times, leading to ambiguity about her status—whether as a suspect or merely a witness.
The MACC, for its part, maintains that it has fully cooperated with the ongoing police investigation and has denied any wrongdoing or harassment.
As weeks pass without resolution, Ling’s family continues to seek answers. They assert that they have been left in the dark, receiving no direct updates from authorities, and are increasingly doubtful about the seriousness and direction of the investigation.
