Pampanga Gov appeals to President Marcos to fund NIA flood control master plan

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Philippines — Pampanga Governor Lilia "Nanay" Pineda called on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to immediately fund the proposed flood control master plan of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) to protect the province from further flooding permanently.

During the president's situation briefing at the Pampanga Provincial, Pineda told The Manila Times that Pampanga has been prone to flooding due to the rainwater coming from the Sierra Madre mountain ranges, which could wipe out low-lying municipalities in the province.

“At times, we can no longer cope with the volume of water rushing down from the mountains, so I appealed to the President—asking him to take pity on my constituents—because Pampanga’s situation is unique; the downstream towns risk being wiped off the map,” she said in Filipino.

“Fortunately, he has already directed the NIA to construct a dam right there in the Sierra Madre mountains,” she added.
