Kota Kinabalu: The safety and comfort of road users of the Pan Borneo Highway project is always a priority, especially when construction is actively underway throughout Sabah, said Chief Assistant Director of the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway Sector, Mohd Shamsul Nizam Abdul Wahid.
He said the State Public Works Department (PWD) under the Pan Borneo Highway Sector together with the Project Management Consultant (PMC) and support of the Road Transport Department (RTD) and police are organising a road safety awareness and flag waving campaign in conjunction with independence month.
“By taking this initiative, Sabah PWD will continue to work with local authorities as well as project implementers to ensure the interests of the people are prioritised,” he said.
Additionally, he hoped that road users would further enliven the month of independence by waving the flags distributed during the campaign.
He said attaching the Jalur Gemilang and the StatefFlag to vehicles will express the spirit of love for the country and unity in line with the theme of National Day and Malaysia Day 2022 “Malaysian Family, Strong Together”.
According to him, the campaign’s main objective is to promote awareness among road users regarding the importance of practising prudent driving ethics as well reducing accident rates which is seeing a yearly increase.
“This campaign also aims to instil the spirit of patriotism among Sabahans, spread the message of nationalism and encourage the public to wave the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah flag in celebration of independence month and Malaysia Day.
“The month-long campaign began at Work Package 7 (Inanam to Sepanggar) on Friday and will be followed at work Package 3 (Beaufort to Bongawan) ending on Sept 10 on work Package 27, (Kampung Lot M to Mile 32 in Sandakan),” he said.
Goodie bags are distributed by the executive committee and Petronas group containing safety leaflets with national independence and Malaysia Day themes and reflective safety stickers for road users.
The launch was attended by representatives from the RTD, Madzlan Osmar, Royal Malaysian Police’s Inspector Alexender Michael Nyandoh, Kota Kinabalu Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and Head of Petronas Sabah and Labuan Siti Ayu Haniza.
