Kota Kinabalu: Thirteen contractors officially received their acceptance letters (SST) from Federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to proceed with Phase 1B of the Pan Borneo Highway (LPB) project in Sabah.
The SST handover ceremony, which took place at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), was also witnessed by Sabah Deputy Chief Minister III, Datuk Shahelmy Yahya, who is also the State’s Minister of Works.
The Federal-funded project, at an estimated cost of RM13.989 billion, will involve the construction of a 370km federal road from Kota Belud to Kudat and the upgrading of a federal road from Ranau to Lahad Datu.
Nanta told reporters Phase 1B Work Package is expected to take between 36-48 months. The work packages consists of the following four components: North West Road Link Work Package 11-14 (Kota Belud-Kudat); South East Road Link Work Package 16-20 (Tawau-Lahad Datu); North East Road Link Work Package 22-26 (Lahad Datu-Sandakan) and Central Road Link Work Package 31-35 (Telupid-Ranau).

“The Ministry, through the Sabah Public Works Department [JKR], will monitor work quality and assess contractor performance to ensure the safety and comfort of road users are always prioritised, in line with the goals of the MY Jalan KKR Programme,” he said.
He said the Sabah LPB is an important priority for the Ministry which is expected to bring tremendous benefits to the people and stimulating development in high-potential areas along the Pan Borneo Highway.
