
Panchkula Police have solved a case involving the theft of valuable jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from the residence of an elderly woman.
According to police, gold and diamond jewellery worth approximately Rs 40 lakh has been recovered from the accused woman.
On June 13, a Chandigarh resident lodged a complaint alleging that a young woman employed as a cook for her 91-year-old mother-in-law, who lives in the Mansa Devi area of Panchkula, had stolen valuable gold and diamond jewellery from the house. Following the complaint, a theft case was registered under relevant sections at Mansa Devi Police Station and an investigation was launched.
During the investigation, suspicion fell on the woman who had been visiting the house to prepare meals.
The accused, identified as Heena (33), a resident of Mani Majra, Chandigarh, was arrested on June 20. During interrogation, she allegedly provided crucial information that led to the recovery of the stolen jewellery.
The accused was produced before a court on June 21, which granted a two-day police remand. During the remand period, police recovered gold and diamond jewellery worth around Rs 40 lakh from her possession.
She was remanded to judicial custody on Monday.
Panchkula Police have also appealed to residents to get domestic workers verified before employing them.
