A 31-member committee formed after the death of Accounts Officer Balwant Singh on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the SDM at the mini-secretariat, demanding justice for the bereaved family and action against those allegedly involved in the IDFC Bank scam.

The committee, constituted during a mahapanchayat held at Mundakhera village in Jhajjar district on Sunday, warned the government that a large public movement would be launched if no action was taken within a month.

Ram Avtar Yadav, president of the Yadav Sabha, former president Virender Daroga, Balwant Singh’s father and several other members of the committee were present during the meeting.

The committee sought the constitution of a high-level inquiry committee, Rs 1 crore compensation for the family, arrest of the accused and a government job for the deceased’s wife.

Balwant Singh, an Accounts Officer with Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) and a resident of Mundakhera village, allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the eighth floor of the Haryana Secretariat in Chandigarh on May 4.

Yadav said Balwant Singh was posted in the accounts branch of HPGCL and was known to be an honest officer.

The committee members alleged that some officials had been mentally harassing Balwant Singh, which allegedly pushed him to take the extreme step.

The delegation urged the government to ensure a fair investigation and strict action against those found responsible.
