An MBBS doctor allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from the third floor of her house after being harassed and blackmailed by her ‘friend’, who allegedly raped her and threatened to leak her obscene videos on social media.
The Jind police registered a zero FIR in the matter and forwarded it to the Panipat police for further action. Subsequently, the Model Town police in Panipat registered a case against the accused and his family members and initiated an investigation.
According to the complaint submitted to the Jind SP, the victim stated that she came into contact with Mohit, a resident of Jind district, while studying in Class 10 in 2015. Mohit allegedly presented himself as a wealthy person belonging to a respectable family and proposed marriage to her.
The victim alleged that after she secured admission to an MBBS course in Telangana, Mohit reached there and offered her a cold drink, after which she became unconscious. Taking advantage of the situation, he allegedly raped her and recorded obscene videos.
After learning the truth about Mohit, she refused to marry him. However, he allegedly began blackmailing her by threatening to make the videos viral on social media and defame her through edited clips. She alleged that he extorted large sums of money from her on several occasions.
The doctor further alleged that Mohit demanded jewellery and an additional Rs 1 crore from her and continued to mentally harass and threaten her. She also accused his brother, sister and two uncles of threatening and harassing her family members.
Unable to bear the alleged harassment and blackmail for years, the woman attempted suicide by jumping from the third floor of her house on March 12, 2026. She was rescued by her family members and admitted to a private hospital, where she remained under treatment for over 15 days. The victim reportedly remained bedridden for a long time and is still unable to move properly.
Following the complaint, Jind SP marked an inquiry to Safidon DSP, who conducted a preliminary investigation and reportedly found the allegations to be true. Based on the inquiry report, a zero FIR was registered at Pillu Khera police station on May 18 and transferred to the Panipat police.
The Model Town police later registered a case against Mohit, his brother, sister and two uncles under Sections 384, 506, 328 and 376(2N) of the IPC.
DSP Headquarters Satish Vats said that a case had been registered after receiving the zero FIR from Jind police. “It would be too early to comment. The investigation is under way,” he said.
