MELAKA, Sept 25 — A boy was found drowned after he went out swimming with two friends at Pantai Puteri here last night.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Senior Fire Superintendent II Mohd Shahrom Laji said the body of Mohammad Wafiy Adrian Mohd Ridzuan, 12, was found about 150 metres from where he was reported missing, at 9.40 pm tonight.

“Earlier, the Tangga Batu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) received a call at 6.33 pm before arriving at the scene about 11 minutes later.

“Upon arrival at the scene, we received information that two of the three boys were rescued by members of the public,” he told reporters at the scene.

He said the victim’s body was later handed over to the police, while the other two boys, also aged 12, were sent to the Melaka Hospital.

He said last night’s operation involved 44 officers and personnel from various agencies, including Melaka JBPM, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Civil Defence Force (APM) and local fishermen. — Bernama
