PUBLIC Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida Rueda-Acosta has sought assistance from anti-cybercrime authorities and social media platforms regarding a fake video of her convincing the public to invest money for a quick profit.
Infuriated over the video that had gone viral online, the PAO chief told The Manila Times that she was completely appalled upon learning of the scammers’ bogus online account using her image and voice.
Rueda-Acosta said that she has reported the scam video to the concerned law enforcement agencies, including the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG), to identify the culprits and hold them accountable.
“But I am also asking and warning the public, at the same time, to be doubly vigilant and never entertain that fake video which uses my image and voice to fool people into investing their money,” she said.
“This is totally disgusting,” she added.
The top PAO official said the scammers were so cunning that they chose her own image and voice in their illicit activities since they knew that she is close to millions of Filipino people, particularly the indigents and underprivileged, who seek free legal and other humanitarian services.
