MANILA, Philippines — Sagip Rep. Paolo Henry Marcoleta mistakenly attributed a movie quote to a character portrayed by John Lloyd Cruz during the resumption of the House Committee on Justice hearing on the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The incident occurred while the panel was discussing whether to open a box containing the income tax returns (ITRs) of Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio.
“I dare the committee to open the box, but with a caveat: make sure you are not violating the law,” Marcoleta said in a mix of Filipino and English.
“And Popoy said in the movie, ‘I deserve an explanation. I deserve an acceptable reason.’ Make sure that if you open it, you have an acceptable reason that is in accordance with the law,” he added.
However, “Popoy” is a character played by Cruz in the film One More Chance, while the quote cited by Marcoleta actually comes from the character Marco Villanueva, portrayed by Piolo Pascual, in the film Starting Over Again.
