Opposition blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, popularly known as Papagomo, has labeled Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim with power abuse by meddling in the nation's legal system.
According to malaysiakini, he claimed that when the prosecution requested no bail and a gag order against the prisoner, he was taken aback.
"I was taken aback because I was accused of a major felony, even though this is an act of sedition, and the prime minister and the current administration have been calling for the outlawing of sedition for decades.
At a press conference held at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, he stated, "But today we can see that with the power they have, they use that power to order their political enemies to be silenced."
The accused's attorney, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, asserted that his client had been charged with an offense that carried a bond requirement.
Given that Wan Muhammad Azri is providing for his wife and five children, he requested that the court grant bail.
Muhammad Rafique requested an RM10,000 bond, which is the same sum as was requested in the case of Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, who was charged under the same Act. The attorney also took issue with the application for a gag order, as reported by The Star.
Siti Aminah granted RM15,000 in bail in one surety, subject to the further requirement that the accused report to the police station once a month until the case is resolved. The gag order request was denied by the court, and a mention date of May 23 was set.
Rafique also cautioned Anwar against disobeying the division of powers. He said Anwar should not meddle in judicial matters, referring to the prime minister's comment that "all these criminals should change my rooms in (jail) Sungai Buloh" made during his speech at Labor Day celebration in Putrajaya.
“Don't attempt to meddle in court matters, don't try to be judges, and don't try to be judges since Malaysia's legal system is simple and its judges are not politically involved. Judges in Malaysia make decisions based on facts and the law," he stated.
At the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today, Papagomo was accused of inciting hatred towards Sultan Ibrahim, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
It has to do with his social media post about the problem of socks with the name Allah.
