PAPAR: The district is poised to become a key tourism hub in the State, with the implementation of major projects in the hospitality sector and the development of a new township.
Papar Member of Parliament Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the development of three major tourism projects would uplift the district’s image and indirectly boost the State’s tourism industry.
“These are a five-star luxury resort named Intercontinental Hotel & Resort by Sinyi Group currently under construction at a 35-acre plot in Melinsung, a five-star resort by Mujur Lagenda Sdn Bhd at a 100-acre plot in Kg Suangon, Kinarut and a Cultural Complex in Kinarut,” he said.

Armizan said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor would officiate the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cultural Complex today (Saturday), which will be developed by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment as a new tourism attraction.
He said the Cultural Centre will also serve as a centre for local communities to display and sell their handicrafts to tourists.
“Apart from the Palm City project, the development of the three major projects will significantly help to stimulate tourism here and make Papar the next tourism hub.
“Together with Kawang Assemblyman and Limbahau Assemblyman, we will identify local community-based tourism potentials to contribute to this initiative.
“We aim to establish a holistic tourism ecosystem that also incorporates local products, such as souvenirs, food and other locally made items,” he said.
Armizan said the Palm City project would have a significant impact on Papar’s development
“Kinarut Palm City, which involves the construction of several building blocks and shop lots, will stimulate the economic sector in Papar, particularly in Kinarut located close to the State Capital.
“We are confident that such development will help meet the needs of Papar’s growing progress while also positively impacting the local economy,” he said.
