Parasite Actor, Lee Sun Kyun Found Dead Inside a Car in Seoul With Lit Charcoal Briquettes

Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, famous for his role in the Oscar-winning film “Parasite,” scripted by Bong and co-writer Han Jin-won, was found dead inside a parked car in Seoul’s Waryong Park.

As reported by the BBC, the 48-year-old was discovered unconscious in a car at a park in central Seoul. Lee had been under investigation for illegal drug use since October, insisting that he was deceived into taking drugs.

The Korean Times also reported that the police received a report, stating that Lee had left home after leaving a memo resembling a suicide note, and his car was missing.

The police verified his identity and discovered evidence of lit charcoal briquettes inside Lee’s car, indicating that his death might have been a suicide.

“As he was pronounced dead, he wasn’t taken to hospital.”

Lee underwent three rounds of police questioning due to suspicions of using marijuana and other illegal drugs. These activities allegedly occurred at the residence of a hostess employed at a high-end bar in Seoul’s Gangnam district on multiple occasions since the beginning of this year.

Born in 1975, Lee rose to global fame after “Parasite,” in which he played a main role, won Academy Awards in 2020. The film swept four awards at the Oscars in 2020, including Best Picture – becoming the first non-English language film to win the prize.

He has also taken on leading roles in various South Korean films such as the 2012 thriller “Helpless” and the 2014 movie “All About My Wife.

It’s uncertain whether he took his own life or if there’s more to the story. The news has deeply affected people worldwide. Nonetheless, may he rest in peace.
