M’sian tuition teacher blamed after student fails SPM Maths despite unpaid fees. Viral post sparks debate and netizens’ reactions online.
A tuition teacher has triggered a heated debate on social media after claiming she was berated by a parent following the release of the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results, in which the parent’s child failed Mathematics.
In a post on the platform Threads, the teacher alleged that the parent became emotional upon seeing the results and accused her of being “biased”.
The accusation reportedly stemmed from a comparison between the child’s performance and that of another student who achieved a B+.
According to the teacher, the parent questioned why other students were able to perform well while her own child failed.
The teacher countered this by highlighting the stark difference in student engagement.
She explained that the high-performing student had been consistent throughout the tuition sessions, maintaining full attendance and active participation.
In contrast, she claimed the parent’s child struggled to focus and was frequently distracted by TikTok on their mobile phone, which severely hindered learning progress.
The teacher further revealed that the student had only attended classes for four months before being withdrawn three months prior to the examinations.
Crucially, the teacher stated that tuition fees had remained unpaid for two months; however, she chose not to pursue the debt at the time to prioritise the student’s preparation.
The situation allegedly escalated into harassment, with the parent contacting the teacher at 1.50am to vent her frustrations.
“Today she called me during my class just to scold me because her child failed SPM.
“Even after a recheck, the result was still a fail,” the teacher wrote.
“She WhatsApped and called me at 1.50 am just to vent her emotions. What else can I do? I can only ‘educate’ her,” she added.
The teacher also revealed that she had previously warned the mother about the child’s phone usage, but was told that the parent was unable to control the behaviour.
“If even the mother cannot control the child, what else can I do?” she asked.
The post has since gone viral, with netizens stressing that academic success depends on a student’s personal discipline and effort, rather than solely on external tuition.
Many commenters focused on the concept of “keberkatan” (blessings), suggesting that the parent’s lack of respect and the unpaid fees may have contributed to the poor outcome.
User adibah.latif commented: “The audacity. Didn’t even pay, and then wonders why there’s no blessing in the knowledge. That’s probably why the child failed.”
User qi.medina.mohamad asked: “Wait… so the student only studied for four months? And expected to pass?”
User pajelingketangketung wrote: “The teacher was teaching without even being paid, yet there was no basic respect… it just shows a complete lack of common sense on the mother’s part.”A tuition teacher has triggered a heated debate on social media after claiming she was berated by a parent following the release of the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results, in which the parent’s child failed Mathematics.
