In a heartbreaking turn of events, a couple has been taken into custody following the death of their eight-year-old daughter, who reportedly suffered severe abuse. The incident occurred at their apartment in Bandar Tasik Puteri, Rawang, with the girl tragically passing away on August 17.
The Gombak district police chief, ACP Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir, confirmed the arrest of the child's mother and stepfather late last night. The authorities were alerted to the situation around 3:27 p.m. when they were called to the apartment where the victim was found deceased. The arrest of the 29-year-old stepfather and the 28-year-old mother followed shortly after.
Initial investigations have uncovered disturbing details about the nature of the abuse. According to ACP Noor Ariffin, the young girl sustained numerous injuries, including bruises on her face, arms, legs, and body. The injuries were inflicted using a range of objects, including belts, clothes hangers, and blunt instruments. The severity of the wounds points to a sustained and brutal assault.
The victim’s body has been sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and a murder investigation has been launched under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The authorities have noted that the child, who was a second-grade student, had been absent from school since June, raising further concerns about her well-being during this period.
Both suspects are currently employed as security guards and ice cream makers. They will be held in custody for a period of seven days, until August 24, to allow for a thorough investigation into the case.
The police are appealing to the public for any additional information that could assist in their investigation. Those with knowledge of the case or who can provide further insights are encouraged to contact ASP Mohd Hamizan Mohamad Yunus at 013-8348384 or reach out to the Gombak District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 03-61262222.
This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for vigilance and intervention in cases of suspected child abuse. The community's involvement can be crucial in preventing such tragedies and ensuring justice for the victims.
