Beginning next year, parents will be given the option to enrol their children in preschool from the age of five, as well as Year One of primary school from the age of six, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.

He emphasised that enrolment will not be mandatory, allowing parents to decide based on their child’s readiness.

“Starting in 2027, parents may choose for their children to enter Year One at either six or seven years old.

“This approach reflects the evolving demands of the times while taking individual developmental readiness into account,” he said at the launch of the National Education Blueprint 2026–2035 at the International Convention Centre here.
